Vocabulary - Module 3

1. absolute value- a number's distance from 0 on the number line.
2. decimal-decimal means a number based on tenths.
3. Dividend-the amount that you want to divide up. dividend ÷ divisor = quotient
4. divisor -A number by which another number is to be divided. (look above)
5. fraction-a numerical quantity that is not a whole number (e.g., 1/2, 0.5).
6. integers-a whole number; a number that is not a fraction.
7.  negative numbers- numbers less than zero and located to the left of 0 on a number line.
8. opposites- The opposite of a number is just the number on the opposite side of zero on the number line.
9. positive numbers- numbers greater than zero located to the right of 0 on a number line
10. whole numbers-Also called counting number. one of the positive integers or zero; any of the numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, …).
11. rational number-  any number that can be expressed as a ratio of two integers.
12. venn diagram- a visual representation used to show the relationships between groups.
