New Vocabulary Words for Module 4!
Vocabulary Words for Module 4
1. reciprocal-one of two numbers whose product is one.
2. remainder- part, number, or quantity that is left over.
3. denominator-The bottom number of a fraction that tells how many equal parts are in a whole.
4. numerator- The top number of a fraction that tells how many parts of a whole are being considered.
5. mixed number-A number made up of a whole number that is not zero and a fraction.
6. dividend- The number to be divided in a division problem.
7. divisor- The number you are dividing by in a division problem.
8. quotient- the result when one number is divided by another.
9. fraction-a number in the a/b form where b ≠ 0.

Vocabulary Words
1. prime- A Prime Number can be divided evenly only by 1, or itself. And it must be a whole number greater than 1. Examples of prime numbers include 2,3,5,7,11.
2. composite A whole number that can be divided evenly by numbers other than 1 or itself. Example: 9 can be divided evenly by 3 (as well as 1 and 9), so 9 is a composite
3. distributive property The Distributive Property is easy to remember, if you recall that "multiplication distributes over addition". Formally, they write this property as "a(b + c) = ab + ac". In numbers, this means, that 2(3 + 4) = 2×3 + 2×4.
4. product-a product is the result of multiplying
5. multiples- The result of multiplying a number by an integer (not a fraction).
6. factors-Factors are numbers you can multiply together to get another number: Example: 2 and 3 are factors of 6, because 2 × 3 = 6.
7. greatest common factor -The largest common factor of two or more given numbers.
8. least common multiple-The smallest number, other than zero, that is a multiple of two or more given numbers.
9. inequality- A mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equal.
10. Integer- a member of the set of whole numbers and their opposites.
11. positive numbers- A number greater than zero
12. negative numbers- a number less than zero
13. absolute value- The distance of a number from zero on a number line: shown by | | lines.
14. opposites- two numbers that are an equal distance from zero on a number line.
